Russia's latest RS-24 Yars missile systems ready for combat duty

Russia has put its Yars state-of-the-art missile systems on combat duty in the Novosibirsk Region. Yarsmissiles are a defensive weapon, so it’s important that the missiles are imperceptible on terrain. Yars missiles are due to eventually replace the now obsolete Topol missile system.

The Yars system comprises missiles, a communications vehicle, a launch-associated support vehicle, and an engineer support vehicle. By 2016, Yars missiles are due to account for more than a half of the main attack force of the Russian armed forces’ missile arm. Yars missiles will fully replaceTopols within the next seven years.
