The Polish Defense Minister has signed a €280 million contract for the purchase of eight Alenia Aermacchi M-346 jet trainers, the firm said Thursday.
Alenia, a unit of Finmeccanica, was selected to supply the aircraft in December, beating competition from the Korean T-50. The two aircraft are expected to compete again in the pending T-X program in the US.
The Polish contract includes logistical support, a training program for pilots and engineers, and a ground-based training system, Alenia Aermacchi said in a statement.The Polish MoD has also taken an option for four more aircraft. ■http://www.defensenews.com/
