Pantsir-S air defense missile-artillery systems have been assigned to an air defense brigade deployed in the Leningrad region, Western Military District spokesman Oleg Kochetkov told Interfax-AVN on Monday. The Pantsir-S surface-to-air missile-artillery system has been tested by the personnel of the air defense brigade, who fired missiles at various air targets on the Ashukul testing ground in the Astrakhan region, he said.
"The systems have been delivered to their home base in the Leningrad region and will enter service," Kochetkov said.
"The firing tests were successful. All targets were hit at the range assigned with missile and artillery fire," the spokesman said.
The Pantsir-S was developed by NPO Vysokotochniye Kompleksy (High Precision Systems). It is a small-range missile-artillery system intended to defend small facilities from air attack means (both drones and aircraft). The system can be used to hit light-armor land targets and personnel. Pantsir-S combines a multichannel target acquisition and tracking system, and missile and artillery armaments.
